Many happy tears were shed by parents at our annual Year 11 Breakfast as students reflected on their journey at The King Alfred School to date.

The much-loved event marks the start of study leave, as students prepare to sit their GCSE exams. It’s a special occasion attended by students, parents and staff, offering a moment to reflect and celebrate before the exam season begins.

The morning featured musical performances, alongside heartfelt speeches from students and staff, who shared memories and reflections on how this cohort has grown since joining the school.

“What makes this school special isn’t just its grades, but the kind of people it produces”

One speech in particular captivated the room.

Charlie T, who joined KAS in Lower School aged just four, delivered a moving address that he had composed on his way into school that very morning.

Standing in front of his classmates, teachers and parents, he reflected on the friendships he has built, the confidence he has developed, and the lasting impact of being part of the KAS community.

“What makes this school special isn’t just its grades, but the kind of people it produces,” he said. “Everyone here is well-rounded, respectful and full of aspirations that I love to see.”

His heartfelt words resonated deeply with everyone present, with more than a few tears were shed around the room. Well done, Charlie!

Following the breakfast, the entire year group gathered in the amphitheatre for a commemorative photograph. Students and teachers then headed out for a well-earned day of fun, enjoying time together at Inflata Nation followed by lunch at a food hall — a chance to relax with friends before focusing on the weeks ahead.

We wish all our Year 11 students the very best of luck as they begin their GCSEs. We are already incredibly proud of the smart, confident and emotionally intelligent young people you have become!
