Is King Alfred a good school? Naturally, we think so – a view that’s supported by our latest ISI inspection. But why take our word for it?
We invited parents from our community to share their thoughts and experiences of the school, giving prospective families valuable insights into life at KAS.
The testimonials below include honest reviews of The King Alfred School from parents whose children currently attend.
They cover the standard of teaching, their children’s development since joining the school, thoughts on our progressive philosophy – plus much more.
Recorded in Spring Term 2026, when Melissa’s eldest daughter was in Year 2, and her youngest was due to start Reception in September.
Janey has two sons in our Lower School, one in Year 5 and one in Year 1. Her youngest child, a daughter, will join KAS in Reception in September 2026. She shared the following review of the school in Summer Term 2026.
Since joining the school, my children have grown both academically and personally. Most importantly, they are genuinely happy to go to school each day and are excited to learn.
The school has supported them in learning at the pace that is right for them, while still keeping them appropriately challenged and engaged.
On a personal level, I have seen them become more confident and secure in themselves. They feel accepted by their peers, listened to by their teachers, and supported as individuals. This has created an environment where they are happy, comfortable, and able to be their authentic selves, which has had an enormously positive impact on their overall well-being and development.
I would recommend The King Alfred School for its unique approach to education and school life.
The school encourages children to be their authentic selves and to embrace learning in ways that suit their individual personalities, strengths, and interests. There are so many opportunities for self-expression, creativity, and curiosity to flourish.
I also value the way the outdoors is embedded into daily school life, creating an environment that feels both inspiring and nurturing for the children.
Charlie – who started at KAS in Reception, aged 4 – shared these heartfelt words at our annual End of Year 11 Breakfast, attended by teachers, students and their parents.
The annual event is a chance to reflect on students’ achievements and personal development ahead of their GCSE study leave.
Charlie spoke warmly about his 12 years at The King Alfred School, touching on the support, reassurance and sense of community that a KAS education gave him.
