Sixth Form

Students joining our Sixth Form quickly discover a community built on trust, curiosity and ambition.

As the Director of Sixth Form, it is my privilege to welcome you to our nurturing educational community where students are known and valued as individuals and where relationships are built on mutual respect and genuine care. Sixth Form is an exciting stage in a young person’s journey, where independence, aspiration and identity begin to take shape. Students also start to understand their own strengths and take ownership over their direction. At KAS, we take pride in creating an environment that enriches all students, ensuring they are supported during this time.

Students are encouraged to think deeply, engage confidently with challenging ideas and really stretch themselves within an inclusive setting where they feel supported to grow. Learning extends beyond the classroom, with students encouraged to engage fully in our enrichment programme and wider opportunities that shape their development and broaden their horizons. Students are supported to take increasing ownership of their own learning and to feel empowered to make informed choices about their future pathways.

Around 55 Sixth Form students from The King Alfred School stand in three rows posing for a year group photograph outside of the wood-panelled Sixth Form building.

Our dedicated Sixth Form Team are always available to provide guidance and support, ensuring students are known, valued and understood as individuals. With a personal tutor for each student and small tutor groups, you will always have a staff member who knows you well during your time at Sixth Form.

As a member of the Sixth Form, you will have greater freedom and greater responsibility. Younger students will look to you as role models, and teachers will place further trust in you as you take a leading role in the life of our school. I am eager to see how you will contribute to our school community and beyond and where our education takes you!

The King Alfred School Sixth Form offers a unique learning experience. We have seen how students flourish in a supportive and non-pressurised environment that enables them to learn, grow and develop as individuals, and we warmly invite you to experience this first-hand.

Sixth Form spaces: dedicated study areas, leafy grounds

In September 2021, we officially opened our new Sixth Form Centre. Year 12 and 13 students benefit from this dedicated, modern and inspiring new space, which includes a common room, study centre and outdoor terrace. With tea, coffee and refreshment facilities, the Common Room provides somewhere to socialise with other students, while the quiet first-floor area provides space to study.

Further study space is provided in the Upper School Library. A comfortable, welcoming environment, the Library is available throughout the school day, whether students want to borrow books for their latest coursework, use our online resources, study, or just curl up with a good read.

The King Alfred School is situated over two sites on the edge of Hampstead Heath. The Sixth Form is based mainly on our Manor Wood site, which is centred around a beautiful field.
