This year’s annual Middle School show was a tale of two performances as students from Years 7, 8 and 9 took on Annie Jr.
With so many talented and enthusiastic performers across the years groups, the two-night run was split into two parts.
Students in Years 7 & 8 performed a showcase of songs, whilst Year 9 students staged a theatrical production of the much-loved musical.
Sixth Formers studying for our UAL Level 3 Diploma in Production and Performing Arts were on hand to help out, directing rehearsals, coaching dance numbers, doing the lighting and running backstage.
“I feel like a professional actor”
Zach W (Year 9), who played the benevolent Mr Warbucks, shared:“It’s been great working with the Sixth Form UAL students who have been directing us during rehearsals, coaching dance numbers, doing the lighting and running backstage. They’re really fun to work with and inspiring to see.”
Of starring in the show across two nights, he said: “I love putting on my costume, it really makes me feel the part and the new changing rooms at the Phoenix Theatre make me feel like a professional actor.”
“Being in the show has cemented friendships”
Taisie M (Year 9), who played Miss Hannigan’s sidekick, Miranda, added: “Being in Annie has been so much fun. The rehearsals and the scenes where we’re all together are my favourite thing – it’s helped cement friendships. Rob [Messik, our Director of Theatre] has been amazing; without him it would never have all come together!”
“I’m looking forward to taking the Drama UAL Level 2 Diploma next year as part of my GCSE studies and getting back on the stage.”
