KAS Academic Lectures, Spring 2018

5th January 18

The King Alfred School is pleased to announce the list of speakers for the Spring 2018 Academic Lectures.

This term’s talks will explore poetry, architecture, creative thought, art, film and fashion.

The series opens on Monday 8 January with a poetry reading and discussion led by Jane Weir of Templar Poetry. Jane’s work includes “Poppies,” a celebrated poem which is included on a number of GCSE curriculums.

Dr Kerstin Sailer visits from the UCL Bartlett School of Architecture for “Analysing Learning Spaces: How The King Alfred School Compares to Hogwarts” on Monday 22 January. This talk is sure to add an interesting element to our approach and understanding of architecture at KAS.

Two Old Alfredians join us this term, Turner Prize winner Anthony Engi Meacock, Monday 5 February and journalist and broadcaster with a specialism in fashion Maggie Norden, Monday 5 March.

We are also delighted to welcome artists Idris Khan and Annie Morris for a talk about their work on Monday 26 February and award winning journalist and author John Carlin Monday 12 March who will speak about his writing and research on Nelson Mandela including the 2009 film “Invictus.”

The KAS Academic Lectures take place fortnightly on Monday mornings, 10:10-11:00. The series is part of Sixth Form Enrichment, and is devised to introduce students to a broad range of interdisiplinary topics and ideas.

Students, parents, and staff are welcome to attend. To reserve a ticket, please contact Sheila.
