Year 12 & 13 students staged an epic Musical Theatre Showcase last month, as part of their UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing & Production Arts – with the help of a very special guest.

Guy M (Y12) shared the following report on the creative process, culminating in two magical nights at our Phoenix Theatre

“Rehearsing the Musical Theatre Showcase was challenging, but so rewarding in the end to see how our group’s work had paid off. In just a couple of months, we choreographed, constantly refreshed and blocked 28 numbers ranging from solos to huge ensemble songs.

“In the UAL course, we have many industry professionals come into school to share their real-world knowledge of the business and help guide and push us to be our best selves. This term, the Year 12 class had an enriching workshop session with Samantha Spiro (pictured below), who is a wonderful actress in all kinds of theatre.

“I personally think the showcase gave me real experience in creating, rehearsing and performing in a show. It was a real bonding experience, and it pulled our whole cohort so close together. It was so rewarding to hear so much positivity back from the audience.

“We were all so nervous for the opening night, but as soon as we stepped on stage, all our nerves were settled, and we were ready and excited to perform.

“One setback we had to navigate was when one of our cast members, Daisy, had to call out due to sickness. We all worked together to fill the gaps left and get the show up to performance standards. Daisy returned for the second night, and the show was even stronger!”
