A level results bring a flurry of A*s and diverse destinations

A new KAS record was reached with A*s making up 30% of all A level and Level 3 grades and students excited to be heading off to a huge range of prestigious post-school pathways.

The A*s were only part of the story; with almost half (43%) of grades at A* – A and over three quarters (76%) of the grades at A* – B,^† the results continue to show the high standards at KAS.

Robert Lobatto, Head of The King Alfred School, said: “Our students have excelled in their exams, and I would like to congratulate them for their dedication and spirit. I am delighted to see that three in 10 grades are now A*, which demonstrates the outstanding academic achievement that has always been a key part of KAS’s rounded educational approach. It is truly exciting to see the next chapters that lie ahead for our students and the fantastic opportunities this will bring.”

Many students made the choice to come in and open their results in person in our dedicated Sixth Form Centre. There they could celebrate with their teachers and parents and make use of the guidance of our UCAS and Higher Education Co-ordinator.

Students secured pathways to destinations including Cambridge, UCL, York, and St Andrews in the UK. We also have students continuing their education at prestigious artistic institutions, including LAMDA, Guildhall and the Leeds Conservatoire; some of our students are taking up places at top international institutions, including IE (Madrid), University of Texas (USA) and McGill (Canada).

“That our students are displaying such ambition in their choices is testament to their levels of achievement as well as the support, guidance and advice that they have received during their time with us,” noted incoming Head Stephen Campbell.

Our Year 13 students performed well in all subject areas, with the top A* grade awarded to students in subjects including Maths, Further Maths, Film Studies, History, Film Studies, English Literature, Art, 3D Design, Photography, Psychology, Sociology, Spanish. All of the students who took the two-year UAL Extended Diploma in Performance & Production Arts achieved Distinctions – the highest award attainable.

With a place secured at Corpus Christi College Cambridge, to study Design, student Alex was delighted with her A in 3D Design and A*s in Maths and Further Maths. She said: “King Alfred has been the perfect school for me, I could not have asked for more supportive teachers. Would you believe I was in the bottom set in Maths in primary school? I’ve grown academically and I’ve loved every single minute of being here. I’m going to come back and visit the Maths club to encourage more students to take the subject.”

Another student who secured their first-choice university was Evie, who achieved three A*s in English Literature, History and Politics: “I came to the school in Year 12 and it’s been a great experience. I’m very, very happy that I moved to KAS because I felt supported by the teachers from day one and I don’t think I could have achieved my three A* grades without their help and encouragement. I’m pleased to be going to my first-choice university, Saint Andrews, to study English.”

Director of Sixth Form, Nabihah Ahmed, was handing out the envelopes as the students arrived: “I am deeply proud of how hard our students have worked and the resilience they’ve shown throughout their time at KAS. Today, our Sixth Formers get to celebrate the culmination of two years of dedication, commitment, and growth. It has been wonderful to see them passionately discussing their next steps with their teachers and families, whether they are heading to university, embarking on gap years, or studying abroad.

“It is particularly impressive that the vast majority of our students are progressing to their first-choice university or post-school pathway. This is a direct result of our child-centred approach at KAS, where we champion the ambitions of our Sixth Form students and nurture their passions throughout their journey, ensuring that they leave KAS empowered and equipped for the future.”

Parent Stephanie was there to celebrate with her son Yannik, who is off to Kings College to study Biomedical Science. She had nothing but praise for the school, saying: “Choosing for Yannik to stay here for Sixth Form was the best choice for him. The support and attention he got at King Alfred was exactly what he needed.”
