Year 9 students have been considering their futures ahead of selecting their GCSE subjects later this term – with the help of parents and fellow students.
As part of our Year 9 Careers Fair, they had the chance to explore careers in industries ranging from law, medicine and architecture to film and TV, event management and journalism.
In true KAS community spirit, students worked their way around a carousel of desks manned by parents, who were ready to impart insights and answer questions about their career paths. Huge thanks to all parents who volunteered their time and expertise!
Year 9s Taisie M and Maude M-K found the experience highly helpful. “It’s really interesting to hear about all the different jobs,” they said. “People have given us such great advice. It’s made us feel hopeful about the future!”
“What a remarkable school… opening up space for honest conversations with real people about their different careers and pathways.”
Parent feedback was similarly positive. Architect Markus said afterwards: “Talking to such a young generation, full of ideas, dreams and ambition, was genuinely inspiring.
“I truly believe it is our responsibility to support and nurture the curiosity of young people as they begin to shape their futures.
“What a remarkable school, creating such a hands-on event, and opening up space for honest conversations with real people about their different careers and pathways.”
Fellow parent Miranda added: “It’s been a joy to talk with such savvy, creative, well-balanced kids. They asked really interesting questions.”
Earlier in the term, Year 9s had the opportunity to speak with our Year 11 students at our Year 9 Options event.
The older students offered insights into the various subjects available in Years 10 and 11 as GCSEs and School Directed Courses (SDCs), offering advice and guidance based on their own experiences.
“It’s great to hear from students with hands-on experience of the courses,” shared Maceo C.
Inigo W added: “I think I know which options I want to choose, but it’s good to hear more about workload and coursework.”
