As part of their investigation into natural phenomena and how it impacts our world, Year 5 made an earthquake simulator by designing a platform that can attach to a motor. They then wrote the code that would make the platform move progressively faster to simulate the ground moving like an earthquake. After this, they designed buildings to put on their simulator – their task was to see how tall they could make a building that would survive all the stages of their earthquake simulator.
Two Year 5 students, Bobby and Luca, were very successful in their building: “We’ve been looking at earthquakes and the building we built stood strong even on level 9! Level 9 is the type of level where you would have to stay in your house and get into bunkers because of how strong the earthquake would be, and our tall skyscraper got through it!”
