Over the Easter break a group of YR12 students visited The King Alfred School Kinniya in Sri Lanka. We are mindful of the tragic events which have occurred in Colombo, Negombo and Batticaloa over the Easter weekend but thankfully our group were at no point near any of the incidents and were able to return as planned, safe and well.
Whilst in Sri Lanka the students had an amazing experience working in the school which was founded using donations from the KAS community in 2004. They got involved with teaching and renovating the nursery area of the site and they also enjoyed travelling to other areas of Sri Lanka including Kandy, which is where they were when the bombings occurred.
The trip has given our students a better understanding of the world and a profound appreciation for our common humanity with people from all cultures. Sadly, it has also reminded all of us of the fragility of peace and how we can only renew our efforts to build bridges with other communities.
