GCSE Results Day

King Alfred School bucks the national trend with strongest A*-A grades for 10 years.

King Alfred School Year 11 students celebrated today with outstanding performance in their GCSE results.  55.4% of all grades were A* to A, and half the cohort achieved at least 5 A or A* grades across their subjects. Most importantly for King Alfred, value-added scores showing progress for each individual from their starting point, was very positive for all students.

Rod Jackson, Head of Upper School said “King Alfred students have bucked the national trend, achieving our strongest results at the A* and A grades for the past 10 years. I am proud of all of the students in this cohort, they worked extraordinarily hard and deserved the success they achieved.”

One of our students who achieved the new grade 9 in Maths commented as he opened his envelope: “I am thrilled that all the hard work has paid off and I would like to thank all my teachers for all their support over the course and as I prepared for my exams.”

While the new scoring system added an extra layer of nerves, Daniel Love, Head of Years 10 & 11 said “Everyone has performed exceptionally well”.

Robert Lobatto, King Alfred School Head, said “I am delighted with the achievement of our Year 11 cohort. Both the grades and value-added scores are excellent, and reflect the hard work and commitment of students and teachers over the last two years. We are now looking forward to welcoming them back to the Sixth Form and the next stage of their educational journey.”

The 50 Year 11 students performed well across all subject areas. In Music, for example, 90% of students achieved an A*-A, in History, 86% achieved a grade A* – B, and in Physics, 92% achieved an A* or A grade.
