Sun, Snow and Self-Reliance: Ski Trip 2026

18th March 26

Ask anyone who went on this year’s school ski trip what they loved about it, and you’ll hear the words freedom, fun and friendship over and over again. The trip encapsulated everything that is special about a KAS education and students shone on and off the slopes, showcasing our school values and creating lasting memories.

Freedom, play and the enjoyment of education

With a huge dump of snow arriving alongside the KAS contingent on Saturday afternoon, students of all ages were quick to dash out into the beautiful surroundings for a quick snowball fight. Their enjoyment continued into a week of ski lessons which helped to improve everyone’s skills. The beginners progressed quickly from the nursery slopes to full runs and the intermediates and experts were challenged to improve their technique and got to explore further afield. The instructors were impressed with the attitude and dedication of the KAS crew.

Individuality and self-reliance

The daily business of getting up early, remembering all your gear, finding your ski equipment and getting to the slopes on time is a lot. But by day two everyone had it nailed. The students were often down in the boot room, clipping in and helping each other, before the teachers. Only a few rogue items had to be located by teachers using their high-level powers of ‘looking for things properly’!

Mutual respect

A highlight of the week was the opportunity to go night skiing, something most hadn’t done before. With safety the number one priority, students were tasked with staying together in groups, checking in regularly with the staff and skiing within their limits. They stuck to the rules and got to enjoy a magical evening skiing with their friends while the lights twinkled on the Turin Plain far below them.

A broad definition of success

Outside of skiing the trip also featured: swimming, snow-tubing, a fiendish quiz night (congratulations to the Magnificent Seven on their win) and the legendary room inspections by Jeff. In order to curry favour, students pulled out all the stops performing rituals, re-writing and performing classic songs, decorating and scenting their rooms, composing original music, offering tasty bribes, and actually tidying! The friendliness and good humour of the KAS students was commented on by hotel staff, ski instructors and even the BA cabin crew on our flight home.

Students challenged themselves, looked out for each other, stuck at things and, together with the teachers, made the trip a huge success. It was Henri’s first time organising the ski trip, but it created lasting memories.
