KAStonbury 2025: “A glorious celebration of our community”

Who needs Worthy Farm? This year’s summer fair at The King Alfred School – or ‘KAStonbury’, as it’s known – was a great success, featuring fun, food and excellent entertainment!

The KAS community pulled out all the stops to make this year’s event extra special. Activity stations included face painting, a nail station, a bookstall and an ‘adopt a rock’ stand, where children were rewarded with a parent-sketched certificate for their creative decorating efforts.

As usual, the event also saw students take to the stage. Performances ranged from rock bands to rap acts, with a special appearance by the school cheerleading squad, the KAS Jets. Better value than an Oasis ticket, any day!

Those left hungry and thirsty from bopping in front of the stage were sated by a selection of food and drink stalls, including a BBQ serving hot dogs and burgers, a falafel stand and the incredibly popular ‘margs & tacos’ tent. Meanwhile, sweet treats included cakes, popcorn and ice creams.

A glorious celebration of our community” – KAS Head Robert

In his weekly email to parents, KAS Head Robert Lobatto said: “It was a glorious celebration of our community – parents and children, staff and volunteers, prospective and Old Alfredians.

“The event was reimagined this year to bring it closer to the KAS ethos.  The external food trucks were replaced by our tasty new caterers, the activities were full of creativity and joy, and the music from our talented young people was outstanding.

“A truly intergenerational event, it strengthened the bonds between us all.”

“The best KAStonbury yet!?” – Music Teacher Dan

On behalf of the Music department, teacher Dan Aarons said: “Could this year’s KAStonbury have even been the best one yet?! From Year 6 to Year 13, students did themselves, their families and the school proud with a plethora of praiseworthy performances.”

He added: “A huge thanks to everyone involved and all the hard work put in from both staff and students alike.”

Particular thanks must go to Ulrike Mertesacker and Phoebe D’Arcy, co-chairs of the school’s KASparents group, who worked tirelessly to make the event such a great success!
