Creating Stories in English

The English Department have been busy with a number of different projects with Years 7, 8 and 9 this Summer Term.
Year 7 enjoyed studying The Bone Sparrow by Zana Fraillon. This is a moving story about refugees in Australia. They designed front covers for the book inspired by it’s themes.
Year 8 looked into the Romantic poets, with a particular focus on the work of William Blake. Students wrote essays comparing the presentation of London in poems by Blake and Wordsworth and used Blake’s work to write creatively about the city.
Then, as well as going to see the World War I battlefields, Year 9 wrote their own war poems after taking inspiration from the writing during the conflict.
