Prêts? Allez! No Stopping Sixth Form Fencer

18th January 24

Congratulations to Year 13 student, David, who has had fantastic success in his latest Fencing competitions.

David, who is studying Psychology, Geography and Photography, has been representing Great Britain in U20 and Senior tournaments. His recent achievements include a silver medal at the U20 Junior World Cup in Italy (his best result so far this season) and placing in the Top 10 at a Senior tournament in Paris. The competition in Paris was part of a collective where participants can earn points to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

David said: “It was great to get 8th in the Seniors – the highest I placed before this was 80th. I am competing against older fencers, being one of the youngest, but you don’t tend to notice. The crowd was insane and it was a really well run event.

I’m aiming for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the School has been very supportive, giving me the time off when I need. My teachers are great and they help me catch up when I’ve been away at competitions. My psychology teacher, Ania, also records her lessons which is really helpful to listen back to.

It’s a great honour to represent GB and really satisfying to have that privilege, so I’m very grateful.”

Well done, David! We can’t wait to hear more about how you get on throughout the rest of the season.
