A level results success for our students

17th August 23

Year 13 students were happy to be back in School for the day today as they collected their A level results. With 50% of all grades at A*-A, and 90% of the grades A* – C, the results reflect the hard work and dedication of this group of students. For many of them this would have been their first experience of exams as they had their GCSEs severely disrupted by the pandemic.

Robert Lobatto, Head of King Alfred School, said “These results are a testament to the commitment and passion the students have shown to their studies and I look forward to seeing what they all do next. Alongside their grades, KAS students are rightly proud of their independence, resilience and community spirit and I know that they will carry these qualities with them wherever they choose to go in life.

Our Year 13 students performed well across all subject areas. The top A* grade was awarded to students across a variety of subjects including Maths, Psychology, History, Politics, Art and Photography. 100% of students who took the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing & Production Arts achieved Distinctions, showing the strength and depth of teaching in all Departments.

Student Eleanor, who achieved two A* and one A grade in her exams said: “I got my predicted grades, which is amazing and I wasn’t expecting. I’m off to Royal Holloway University to study Psychology and I feel so happy. The King Alfred School is a really nurturing environment which allows you to be who you are. It has helped me to discover myself and taught me to be me and once you know who you are, you can focus more on other things like learning.”

Another student who was off to their chosen university was Helen Davis: “I got A* and two Bs and I’m thrilled to be going to York to study English Literature – it’s amazing! I’m on an adrenaline high. Sixth Form at King Alfred has been the best two educational years of my life, best decision I ever made!”

Ben Reed was beaming as he picked up his envelope: “I am really, really happy, I did a lot better than I anticipated – I got an A in English! I am off to York to study Politics and International Relations. King Alfred School has helped me so much, I’m a lot more confident than I was because there are so many amazing people here.”

KAS stands out from most other educational environments by achieving academic success without excessive pressure. The high staff to student ratio means that students enjoy friendly and close working relationships with extremely dedicated and well-qualified teachers. This nurturing approach enables each of our Sixth Formers to be supported and guided with care, suitable to their individual needs.

Takako Yeung, Head of Sixth Form said “It’s great to see so many good results today. This cohort of students are a great example of how our unique and nurturing Sixth Form brings out the best in all the young people who choose it. Giving them the confidence to go out and chase their dreams is a job well done for the passionate teachers who work here and I know we will all watch on with pride as they move on to their next adventure.”
