GCSE Students Celebrate Well-Deserved Results

25th August 22

Students across Year 11 were feeling proud today as they recorded an excellent set of GCSE grades. KAS continued to demonstrate how we support all of our students to achieve great results with 31% of results at grades 8 and 9 (equivalent to A*), and 52% at grades 9-7 (equivalent to A* and A). Overall, 95% of results were graded 9-4 (equivalent to A* – C).

Robert Lobatto, King Alfred School Head, said

“Congratulations to all our students. They have risen admirably to the challenge of the last two years, showing great determination, resilience and talent. As a school, we would like to see reform and slimming down of GCSEs – whilst it remains the system however, it is fantastic to see our young people achieving so highly.”

The results were strong across the subject areas with all students who took Biology receiving 8 or 9 and those who took Music, Chemistry and Physics achieving grades 7 – 9.

Matilda and Alicia

Matilda was one of the many students to brave the rain to pick up her results envelope. She said: “I love the people and the way of learning here at King Alfred so I’m staying to study Psychology, Drama, Chemistry and Physics. You have a great relationship with the teachers and they really helped to take away a lot of the stress of taking the exams – they supported us to believe we could do it.”

In the core subjects of English and Maths the school’s results remained strong, with 98% of students achieving 9-4 grades (A* – C) in English Literature and 96% doing the same in English Language. In Maths 94% achieved 9-4 grades (A*-C).

Students came into school to celebrate with their teachers who will see them again soon, as the majority of students are returning to the school for A levels in a few weeks. The departing cohort of Sixth Formers once again recorded impressive A level results, with 55% of all grades at A*-A, and 95% of the grades A* – C.

Luko and his mum Sonita

Luko was another student who came in with his mum to receive his results. He said: “I’m happy with my grades and I’m staying to take the UAL course in Performance and Production Arts which I’m really excited about – I’ve had such good relationships with my teachers and that pushes you on and makes you want to do well for them, as well as for yourself.”

Mum Sonita said: “The King Alfred GCSE experience from a parent’s perspective has been very relaxing, Luko wasn’t stressed at all during the process and he studied to his ability and to his stress level, so these results are reflective of him working the way he wanted to.”

Alex Wahnon Head of Year 11 said; “This group of students should be very proud of what they’ve achieved under challenging circumstances. They have taken on responsibility for their own learning and richly deserve the grades they have worked hard for. Well done!
