Outstanding Academic Success for A level students

10th August 21

Students holding exam results

Students gathered at Manor Wood today to pick up their A level results after a difficult two years with their studies interrupted by the pandemic. Despite the challenges the results are great with 73% of grades at A*-A, 88% at A* – B and a 100% pass rate. After navigating all the uncertainty which came with the cancellation of exams, these students can be truly proud of what they’ve achieved with all students securing places at their first-choice university.

Robert Lobatto, Head of The King Alfred School acknowledged how students had risen to the challenges of the last 18 months, saying: “We have a group of students who have achieved brilliant results in difficult circumstances. Their success is a direct testament to their adaptability and hard work and the rising academic standards in the school. While it hasn’t been easy, the way they have coped with disruption and risen above it to focus on their studies is admirable and I know they will continue to thrive whatever they choose to do in the future.”

Students are going on to study at universities across the UK and abroad, from Cambridge and Manchester to Nottingham, UCLA and many more.

Felix: “I achieved A* in Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Further Maths and I’m going to Cambridge to read Natural Sciences so I’m very pleased with my results. The King Alfred style of education has suited me because I enjoy independent learning and I’ve been able to achieve these results because of that. I’m looking forward to going to university and the challenges that will bring.”

Ava achieved two A* and A and is going to Manchester University to read American Studies: “I’m really happy with my results. I’ve been at King Alfred since Year 1 so it feels very weird to be leaving – it hasn’t quite hit me yet. I think the independence you have here is so great. I’ve learnt to be self-disciplined and been able to push myself, but also to form really good relationships with my teachers.”

KAS is proud to achieve outstanding academic success without resorting to excessive pressure. The King Alfred School Sixth Form is a nurturing environment where students can truly be themselves. Students enjoy small class sizes and close working relationships with extremely dedicated and well-qualified teachers. This nurturing approach enables each of our Sixth Formers to be supported and guided with care, suitable to their individual needs.

Takako Yeung, Director of Sixth Form said “I am very proud of this cohort for the mature way they have dealt with the challenges they’ve faced over the last two years. Great results are only part of what they’ve achieved, they’ve also built skills like resilience, responsibility and self-belief which will stand them in good stead as they head off on the next stage of their lives.”

Jamie achieved three A* and an A, “KAS has really supported me to achieve these results with small class sizes and one on one support from teachers who really care. I’m off to do an apprenticeship in Strategy Consulting at Deloitte alongside a Degree in Business Management which I’m really excited about.”

Vedant achieved three A* and is going to study Economics at UCLA, “Coming into King Alfred in the Sixth Form has certainly given me the ability to work more independently. The amount of asynchronous learning during the pandemic was amazing and that ability to shape my own workflow makes me feel really prepared for university.”
