Students in Year 7 embraced a briefly suspended timetable during Summer Term to enjoy Activities Week – an eagerly anticipated highlight of the school calendar.
With Years 11–13 on exam leave, Year 10 away on European language trips, Year 9 at camp, and Year 8 participating in The Village Project, Activities Week gives Year 7 students the chance to experience a wide range of enriching hands-on activities beyond the classroom.
The week started in charitable style, with students working hard on craft projects to sell at a Charity Market.
They designed and produced items — ranging from printed t-shirts to jewellery and key rings — while learning to calculate profit margins and selling prices.
The market opened to fellow students, staff and parents on Tuesday afternoon, with baked goods also available. Collectively, the students raised over £1k for The Brain Tumour Charity.
On Wednesday, students ventured into Central London to complete a Monopoly-style scavenger hunt, lovingly designed by Head of Year Claire Murphy.
The engaging excursion helped students build teamwork, problem-solving, and navigation skills as they followed clues and tackled challenges at iconic London sites. These included Nelson’s Column, The Savoy Hotel and a statue of Robert Burns.
Thursday brought welcome relief from the heat at Lee Valley White Water Centre, where students tackled paddleboarding, canoeing, and the ever-popular Water Wipeout challenge.
Friday saw a return to the classroom, where students rotated through hands-on workshops in Science, Music, and Classics.
In the latter, they explored the Greek myth of Icarus through art. “I like this story because it’s got a moral,” said Ralph F. “He gets too drunk on power; he thinks he’s a god, but he’s not.
“It reminds you not to be arrogant, even when you’re good at something.”
