Happy tears were shed at our annual Year 11 Leavers’ Breakfast, as students, parents and staff gathered to mark the start of GCSE study leave.
Form tutors shared words of praise for each of their students, whilst Head of Year 11 Lynne Sasson emotionally recounted their collective journey over the five years of Upper School.
“Being Head of Year is a complicated role,” she said. “It’s a balance of nurturing and lecturing; being supportive but honest; listening and talking.
“I hope I’ve taught you to live life with confidence, resilience and a sense of humour.”
She continued: “The last few years have seen you mature and work out who you are. Whilst I’ve been here to support you, many of you are finding your own way through, which I respect; this is the best way of becoming you.”
Students Cydney C and Ahaan G expertly compèred the emotional event, saying the students would be “forever united in their memories” of KAS.
“Life is a journey to be experienced, not a problem to be solved”
“My years here have been so special,” said Ahaan. “They have been a time of growth, a time of friendship, a time of success, a time of connection and laughter.”
Meanwhile, Cydney praised Lynne for the tireless support she offered her students. “Her guidance and love have made us the people who are standing here today,” she said.
“She is the definition of patience and kindness, and an inspiration for us all. Thank you, Lynne.”
The final words went to Lynne, who said: “I will leave you with the words of Winnie the Pooh: Life is a journey to be experienced, not a problem to be solved. Good luck, Year 11.”
After breakfast, students signed one another’s t-shirts before the whole year group headed out of school for a paintballing trip, helping to get their study leave off to a relaxed start.
Everyone at KAS wishes our Year 11s all the very best for their upcoming GCSE exams; we are confident everyone will achieve their full potential!
