Candidates with a disability who are invited to interview should inform the School of any necessary requirements to assist them in attending the interview

Please give details of two people (preferably in different organisations) who can provide references, including your current or most recent employer. Please be aware that references for shortlisted candidates may be requested prior to interview. If you are not currently working with children, but have done so in the past, please include the employer where you most recently worked with children. References will not be accepted from relatives or from people writing solely in the capacity of friends and should come from a business/organisation email address, not a personal email address where possible. If the school is dissatisfied with the references given, we may specify an employer from whom we require a reference.

Please provide full details of all positions held and of all training/further education, employment, self-employment and unpaid work since leaving secondary education. Please start with your current or most recent employer and in each case the reason for leaving employment. It is vital that you provide explanations for any periods not in employment, further education or training. The personal information that you provide will be used in a confidential manner to help with our recruitment process. All members of the King Alfred School Community are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. To support this principle, this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore all convictions, cautions and bindovers must be declared. The successful applicant will be asked to consent to disclosure by the Criminal Records Bureau of any criminal record and inclusion in the ISA Children’s Barred List (people who should not be permitted to work in a school). A criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to employment at KAS – see school policy on the Recruitment of Ex offenders in the application pack. Applicants are encouraged to discuss any concerns they may have with the Head, Robert Lobatto, or HR Manager Tricia Dyer on 020 8457 5200. The school requires you to reveal any criminal convictions, cautions or bindovers, whether spent or unspent, with your application by attaching details in a sealed envelope marked ‘Confidential’ and addressed to the Bursar. If you are currently working with children, either on a paid or voluntary basis, we will be asking your present employer about any disciplinary offences, including any involving children where the penalty has time expired. Your employer will also be asked whether you have been the subject of any child protection concerns and if so, what the outcome of any enquiry or disciplinary procedure was. If you are not currently working with children, but have done so in the past, your previous employer will be asked these questions. All applicants are required to sign the following declaration. Please note that providing false information in your application could result in it being rejected or in summary dismissal after appointment. If appropriate, the school reserves the right to inform the police or relevant child protection authorities.

All posts involving direct contact with children are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. However, amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’. These are not subject to disclosure to employers and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and conviction can be found on the Disclosure and Barring Service website or at Unlock.
