26th January 17
On Saturday 21 January, a team of top KAS debaters participated in the Cambridge Schools Debating Competition, which took place at the Cambridge Union itself.
Angus, Alexander, Holly and Mackenzie represented KAS in the all day event, participating in three debates. Holly and Mackenzie finished 2nd, 1st and 4th in their debates. Angus and Alexander placed 4th, 2nd and 2nd. This is an accomplishent for our students to be proud of.
Student participant Angus reports on the debating competition below.
The Cambridge Schools Debating Competition, which took place Saturday 21 January, was nerve-wracking at first but enjoyable. We started by getting some tips from the Cambridge Union president-elect which gave a lot of perspective to our debate technique. We then split off into our first debate “this house would ban all labour laws in developing nations.”
With only 15 minutes to prepare for such a complex question it was a difficult but interestingchallenge. It was fun to see the level of other schools and have another team push us. Overall the day was a great experience and an opportunity to improve our game.
