Over the October half term, Year 11 and 13 French students spent their “vacances” in Lyon, also known as the French capital of food. Smaller, cleaner, friendlier (and cheaper!) than Paris, Lyon hosted the King Alfred students for a week while we attended French lessons at Lyon Bleu International language school.
The mornings were spent brushing up on our grammar ahead of exams, while the afternoons were spent au cinema, at the funfair or various Lyon museums. We were lucky enough to have our own historical walking tour of the city by none other than King Alfred’s own Leon Whitham (yes Leon in Lyon).
The week was a huge success, not least because we learnt there are more places in France than Paris and Provence! We left Lyon well-fed, well-travelled and a little bit more French despite not-so-recent political events.
Many thanks to Pauline Moloney, Acting Head of French who organised such a fantastic trip!
Gigi, Year 13
