The King Alfred School’s Year 11 students celebrated today with news of a record performance in their GCSE results. The school outperformed last years’ results with 96% of pupils achieving A* – C grades. Furthermore 92% achieved 5 A*-Cs including English and Maths; and 53% of all entries resulted in A* to A grades.
Robert Lobatto, Head of The King Alfred School, said “These are an excellent set of results, richly deserved by our students who have worked exceedingly hard this year. This shows that outstanding academic success does not have to mean pressure and stress. They are a great springboard for continued success at A levels. I congratulate them all.”
A higher percentage than ever before earned a full house of 10 A*-A grades.
The 49 Year 11 students performed well across all subject areas. 100% of Music students achieved an A*-B while 91% of students achieved a grade A*- B in Art and Design. Students exceeded expectations across all the science subjects with a high percentage of students achieving grades A*- C in Physics (100%), Biology (93%) and Chemistry (84%).
The high quality of our English and Maths teaching is demonstrated in the GCSE results with 95% of students achieving an A*-B grade in English Literature and 93% achieved an A*-B grade in Maths.
Daniel Love, Head of Years 10 and 11, said “We have a great group of students in Year 11, they have taken their study seriously, they have an excellent attitude to learning and showed a real interest in their subjects. This is reflected in a fantastic set of results”.
The tone at the Manor Wood site was one of celebration today, with students and teachers joyous that all their hard work paid off.

These results are based on a cohort of 49 students who took GCSEs in 2016. They are provisional and correct at time of issue.
