KAS Competes in European Youth Parliament Debate

1st April 16

On Monday 21st March, seven YR12 students, who dressed up especially for the occasion, participated in the South East European Youth Parliament Debate Forum at the European Parliament UK Office,

Westminster. Accompanied by History teacher Ibrahim, this was the first year The King Alfred School participated in the debate. KAS representatives had prepared over lunch time sessions with Camilla and Ibrahim. The day commenced at 10:00am and all debates were finished by 4:00pm.

Harry Wingate impressively opened the debate on European Economic Policy with a dramatic speech. The team was paired up with the well-seasoned Haberdasher’s School and triumphed on their debate! Throughout the day, all KAS pupils contributed to debates ranging from the Refugee Crisis in Europe to Terrorism.

It was a lively atmosphere and we all learned fundamental skills about how to engage in formal debate among multiple committees. Alas, we were not among the two out of eleven schools to get into the finals, but we were commended on our efforts and enthusiasm.
