Year 9 Abstract Fashion Workshop

22nd January 16

On Wednesday 13 January, the whole YR9 year group spent a day in the Art rooms looking at, learning about and creating their own Fashion designs.

As a culmination of their “Abstraction” project, their brief was to make a life-size costume or dress inspired by the work of an abstract artist and a contemporary fashion designer. They looked at a range of designers including Alexander McQueen, Issey Miyake and Hussein Chalayan, and were given a selection of abstract artists to inspire them such as Kandinsky, Delaunay, Bridget Riley, Miro and Paul Klee.

Working in groups of three, a principle aim was to think about the roles in the group and to discuss ways to approach creative solutions and problems.

They then unleashed their imaginations! It was a day of high energy, lots of noise and an extraordinary amount of risk taking creativity. Their engagement and ability to work together was fabulous, as you can see in the photos capturing their process and results.
