Safeguarding Children in Education Policy.

The King Alfred School fully recognises its statutory responsibility to have arrangements to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. The policy complies with the requirements of the London and Barnet Safeguarding Children Boards. Its main elements are:

• Creation of a protective ethos through the teaching and pastoral support offered to children, the raising of child protection issues and the equipping of children with the skills needed to keep them safe;
• Procedures for identifying and reporting cases, or suspected cases, of abuse. This includes staff training, liaison with other agencies, handling of information and communications and a designated team for child protection;
• Supporting pupils who are at risk; and
• Operating safe recruitment policies to prevent unsuitable people from working with children.
