50% Portfolio of work of on any number of themes supported
by rigorous research with connections to other artists’/
photographers’ demonstrated in an explicit manner in written
studies, journals, hand made books, short films, and a number of
A1 boards (probably 15 to 20) containing black and white
and colour images.
50% An externally set assignment given by AQA with a choice of
topics (5-7) given by AQA. *8 weeks preparation time to do research
(as outlined above in portfolio) and a final set of A1 panels
(probably 6 to 10) of both black and white and colour images.
It should be noted that the explicit connections and the ability
to apply research to your own creative work is very important
to ensure success in this course. Emphasis is placed on
development of ideas finally resulting in completed work.
All work is initially marked by the subject teacher and moderated
by the academic board.
Methods of assessment
AO1 Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations
informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating
analytical and critical understanding.
AO2 Experiment with and select appropriate resources, media, materials,
techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as the work develops.
AO3 Record in visual and/or other forms ideas, observations, and insights relevant
to the intentions, demonstrating an ability to reflect on their work and
progress.
AO4 Present a personal, informed and meaningful response demonstrating critical
understanding, realising intentions and, where appropriate, making
connections between visual, written, oral, or other elements.
Each of the above carry equal weight within assessment (25% each)
Grade requirements:
B in any Art & Design GCSE course.
