A Level Music Technology is an exciting and increasingly popular subject aimed to give students skills in studio production, sequencing, composing and mixing as well as the study of contemporary music.
The King Alfred School is equipped with state of the art Apple computers running Logic Pro and Sibelius. We have a well specified studio with high quality microphones giving students the opportunity to make great recordings.
Music Technology has become an integral part of the department and students get involved in the exciting musical life of King Alfred School. We have an extremely successful pass rate with students achieving A and A* grades last year. The work produced has been of an extremely high standard and in many cases, students gaining full marks on certain modules.
AS Unit 1 (70%)

Unit 2 (30%)
Listening and Analysing exam – questions will be based on popular music from 1910 onwards
A2 Unit 3 (60%)
Task 3a – Sequenced arrangement
Task 3b – Multi-track Recording
Task 3c – Composition
Unit 4 (40%)
Analysing and Producing exam – students will have to edit and produce a mix of a recording given from the exam board in the time required
Entry requirements:
GCSE Music – Grade B or above. The ability to play a musical instrument and basic piano skills.
