A Level Drama and Theatre Studies
Board: Edexcel
Head of Department: Debby Turner
This is a fully recognised examination for all university entrance in appropriate subjects.
The course demands practical, creative and communication skills in almost equal measure. The student will extend their ability to create drama and theatre, either in a performing or production role. They will also be required to write about drama and to develop their powers of analysis to become informed critics. The course will involve taking part in drama productions as well as studying plays and playwrights. It is essential to have studied Drama at GCSE level, although specific enthusiastic and dedicated students with good English GCSE grades and experience of Drama will be considered. They need to be interested in gaining a greater understanding of how theatre and plays work and show that they are keen to be involved with performances. The course requires 4 - 6 hours of private study each week. Play rehearsals, workshops, and excursions out of school hours are also required.
