Choice

In addition to the normal school subjects, we offer Choice on a Friday afternoon, which brings students from Years 7 and 8 together. Year 9 join with Year 10 and 11 for Choice on Wednesday afternoons.

Staff have the freedom to pitch a choice of their choosing which the students take part in for 8 double periods before they get to choose again.

Choices have been put into three categories: “Head, Heart and Soul”. ‘Head’ refers to learning a new intellectual skill, ‘Heart’ involves mainly physical exercise and ‘Soul’ includes those choices that do something for the community. We would like each student to select at least one Choice from each of these broad headings over the course of the year.

Choices that have been offered include, Sailing, Film Club, Cooking, Football, Hockey, Song and Dance, Costume Design, Oaklodge Art Project, Helping in Lower School, Recycling, Bike maintenance, Barn building, Pottery, Mountain biking, Rock climbing, Music composing, Boat maintenance, Hammertime, Cross country running, Fishing, Skiing and Textiles.
