Art Trips and Workshops

London boasts one of the best concentrations of museums and galleries in the world. It would be a crime not to take advantage of this, and we are keen to give our students the experience of seeing and talking about live art. For many the experience of standing in front of a work of art as opposed to looking at a small pixelated image on a screen can be an eye-opening moment and throw up many more questions about the nature of the piece.

All children studying Art throughout the Middle and Upper school are taken on trips, more so as they get older. We try to take them to see shows which will inspire and engage them with issues and ideas, and to explore the practice of making contemporary art. We want to encourage them to articulate, describe and talk about what they see and feel.

In addition we aim to organise a number of workshops throughout the year so that students have the opportunity to work with practising artists and other educators. Year 9 students get involved in a large group sculpture project every year, Year 10 students and sixth formers have the benefit of day workshops with artists.

Many of our sixth form students choose to study art and design related courses in further education. The school helps them to write personal statements and application forms, runs mock interviews with artists, and helps them prepare their portfolios.
