ICT at The King Alfred School

The advancement of technology is rapid and as such we try to ensure that the ICT content, the software and technology used are continuously updated so that the students are exposed to software and technology that is being used in industry.
Here at the King Alfred School we teach ICT from the age of 4 right through to the end of Year 9, when it then becomes an option subject. Throughout lower and middle school students are taught the fundamental basic skills that will enable them to gain confidence whilst developing their problem solving skills across a wide variety of software.

Our aim within ICT is to provide the students with an overview of the many areas of ICT such as, animation, Spreadsheets, film creation, graphics, and robotics, and encouraging them to explore further the areas that interest them most. Whilst covering such topics we also try to encourage the students to think about the effect that technology and ICT has on society locally as well as globally. We encourage the student’s creativity, independence, self-reflection and safe risk taking through the topics covered. This encouraged independence and risk taking with their work enables a better understanding of the software being taught as well as to encourage the use of skill learnt in varying situations and contexts.

We want the students to be curious and ask questions about the software and technology that they are exposed to in lessons at home and ICT in society.
