Other Information

Dogs on site

Please note that the school does not allow any dogs on the site, even for a short time. They may be tethered to the brackets on the wall outside the school gate for a short period. We have had occasions when dogs have become distressed after being left for more than a few minutes. Please ensure this doesn’t happen with your pet.

Parking and Traffic Regulations in the Vicinity

KAS is situated on a very dangerous sector of North End Road, with cars often travelling at excessive speed up and down the hill.
The traffic regulations visibly in force outside the school apply to everyone and must be adhered to at all times to preserve a clear zone for children to arrive and leave in safety. They are based on common sense and have been endorsed by the police.
The zigzag road markings above and below the school entrance indicate a NO STOPPING AND NO PARKING ZONE. Both sides of the road are treated identically so that children, some of whom are very young, have an uninterrupted view of oncoming traffic up and down the hill.
You are asked to promote responsible behaviour and help us at all times to lessen the dangers outside the school. Please also ensure that whoever is authorised to bring or collect your child is aware of these regulations.
- Park well away from the zigzags. It is illegal to stop on them.
- Always cross at the puffin crossing and always see your children across the road.
- Don't do a u-turn in North End Road. This could cause an accident.
- When you stop to deliver or collect your child, park in the direction of the traffic, i.e. stay on your side of the road, even if it means having to see your child safely to the other side using the zebra crossing.
- Don't double park anywhere near the school.
- Don't drive into the school grounds at any time, day or evening. Only staff and those delivering/picking up heavy goods may do so. Arrangements for disabled access can be made by contacting the Estates Manager, Zah Rasul, on 8457 5218, or zah@kingalfred.org.uk.
Suggested parking and drop-off points are Wellgarth Road, Park Drive and connecting roads. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF DRIVEWAYS in those neighbouring streets.

The School Travel Plan

All schools are encouraged to promote a more environmental approach to travelling to and from school. This involves car
shares and walking and cycling (for older pupils) to school.
In partnership with Barnet Council we operate a Walk on Wednesdays programme (WoW). We encourage as many
children and families to walk to school on Wednesdays which is proving to be very popular.

Safety

The school is on an attractive site and because there is so much to do some children and parents like to stay on for a while at the end of the day. We would like to remind you, however, that parents are responsible for the supervision of their own children at this time.
Although there are staff around after lessons, they are no longer responsible for pupils. The playground equipment on the field, including the structure next to the library, is designed for children over 7 years of age. The large Tree House is designed for children over 12 years old and therefore it is out of bounds to all Lower School children at all times, even when you are supervising them. Please note the pond is also a feature which could be dangerous for young children.

KAS Admissions Policy

Full details and copies of the KAS Admissions Policy and entry procedures are available here or from Linda Fraser, the Registrar, on 8457 5227 or admissions@kingalfred.org.uk
Please remember to fill out a Registration Form for newborn babies. The school will always try to accommodate siblings, but we cannot guarantee that all siblings will be offered a place. All children applying to KAS are formally assessed in advance of a place being offered.

Fundraising

Regrettably, the school does not have an endowment, foundation or trust fund. We are, however, looking at ways of establishing a significant long-term fundraising programme. The eventual aim is to raise funds to enhance the facilities and education offered at KAS and to help pay for important development projects at the school which cannot be covered by tuition fees.
New efforts will aim to complement the valuable work done by the Parent/Staff Committee, who carry out fundraising on a smaller but no less significant scale, through a series of enjoyable social events throughout the year. Donations to the school towards specific projects are always gratefully received. Please do contact Dawn via the following email address developmentfunds@kingalfred.org.uk if you are in a position to help at any time over the next few years.
Throughout the year the children will be involved in raising money for outside charities of their choice.
