Dawn Moore and David Weale

Welcome.

A very warm welcome to the King Alfred School; I hope this is the beginning of a long and successful relationship with you and your child. It is with much pride that I watch children develop and flourish after entering our very special school. I know from experience that there will be many magical moments along the way as they perform in Callovers and plays, and bring home the latest artefacts of their learning.
Our school community enjoys exceptionally close relationships founded on mutual respect and good communication, and we welcome and encourage parents becoming as involved as possible in their children’s progress. I look forward to meeting you personally at one of the many social occasions on offer.
I am confident that you will find the information on our web-site both useful and comprehensive but if there are any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

Message from Head of Lower School

We hope that your association with the school will be a long and happy one.
The following aims to provide useful and important information concerning not only the day-to-day routine of your children here, but also various school policy requirements. The safety and security of each child is our main priority, so may I draw your attention to dropping off and collecting time routines and the request for considerate parking around the school, so that we remain on good terms with our neighbours!
Good channels of communication are essential so that you feel confident that your child is happy and settling in well. Your child’s class teacher is the first point of contact, but equally, I am always available if you have any concerns. If you only need 10 or 15 minutes you can sign up for a ‘drop in’ session by putting your name down on the board outside my office. If you would like a longer appointment, please contact Meg in the Lower School office on 0208 457 5243. Alternatively you can email her on megb@kingalfred.org.uk. The Lower School also has its own email address, which is lowerschool@kingalfred.org.uk.
A great deal goes on at KAS and parents from all parts of the school are encouraged to get involved. You will receive a list of school dates and a Diary of Events shortly after the start of each term. In addition we produce a newsletter every Friday which details Lower School news and events and occasional additional dates for your diaries.
The children are offered a very broad curriculum which includes English, Maths, Science, Music, Drama, Games/PE, Art, ICT (Information Computer Technology) and CDT (Craft Design Technology). In addition, children in Years 2 and 3 have swimming lessons at a local pool. It then becomes a games option in Year 4. French is taught from Reception and Spanish from Year 6. Mandarin is also an option in Year 6. Further curricular details can be obtained from the Lower School office.
The Lower School is a very warm, friendly and welcoming environment where happy children are free to learn and enjoy their time. They are encouraged to appreciate and respect each other and to work together.
I look forward to getting to know them and you in the coming months.
