TRANSPORT POLICY – SPRING TERM 2010
The Senior Management Team regularly reviews the use of public transport for school trips. Recently we debated the pros and cons of using public transport this term and decided that while we should continue to exercise caution we would like to be able to use tube travel for certain trips. Therefore this term we will be assessing each proposed trip individually as to whether to permit this mode of travel when requested by staff.
In reaching our decision the management team will consider the age of the children, the size of the group, the complexity of the journey, police advice and the extent of any known disruption to the Northern line. Children below Year 4 will not be using the tube under any circumstances.
Wherever possible/feasible school trips will continue to make use of buses and railways for transport. We acknowledge that some parents may wish to make alternative travel arrangements for their children to participate in events; this is their prerogative and we respect their decision.
Where a trip is deemed educationally essential and public transport is not suitable we will arrange for coaches to be used. Wherever possible the school will fund the cost of a coach for Lower School trips. Very occasionally we may add the cost of £3-£5 to your bill to cover the cost. We will avoid this as much as possible and will always inform you in advance.
DOGS
I am sure that many of you are aware there are facilities outside the school entrances which enable you to tether your dogs whilst you deliver or collect children from either the Manor Wood or Ivy Wood sites. For those parents visiting the Ivy Wood site, I would be grateful if your dog could be tied to the fencing inside the wooden gate but as far away from the entrance gate as possible.
The dogs are frequently stroked by children as they go past and I am asking you to be conscious of the children’s safety. On occasion, especially during hot weather, dogs have become very distressed when they have been left tied up for a considerable length of time. If a dog misbehaves because of this combination of factors I will need to ask the owner to refrain from bringing the dog to school.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
