High Educational Aims
The King Alfred School strives to provide an outstanding educational experience; one that enables the emergence of relaxed, confident, tolerant and articulate adults who are able to take responsibility for planning their own lives.
The School begins its work from every child's natural eagerness to learn. Motivation springs from the children's own interests and from the enthusiasm transmitted by the staff. Every effort is made to keep teaching and learning lively, stimulating and enjoyable. Independent learning through investigation is actively encouraged, as are links between subjects to show their interdependence. Our teachers’ natural eagerness to implement new ideas and to be creative in their methods is always encouraged.
The school enjoys its independence in designing its own curriculum and is not formally bound by the National Curriculum until the end of Year 9 when exam board requirements make it essential. This enables us to incorporate the examination system without being completely driven by it.
The King Alfred School measures the success of its educational philosophy by the acknowledged maturity of the students when they leave, by their further academic or professional successes and by the fact that students go on to worthwhile, interesting or unusual pursuits.
