Advanced level courses
The King Alfred School offers a wide range of AS and A2 courses. Our Sixth Form currently has 105 students, with a number of students joining from other schools every year directly into Year 12. The Sixth Form strikes a balance between being big enough to offer a variety of A-level courses whilst retaining the close relationships and individual support that is so valued by students, teachers and parents alike. The transition from GCSE to A-level requires a different style of teaching and studying. We continue to encourage students to develop the ability to work independently.
All AS subjects are taught for five 50 minute periods per week. At A2, this increases to six periods.
We offer the following subjects at AS/A2 level:
- Art & Design
- Classical Civilisation
- Critical and Contextual Studies in Art
- Design & Technology
- Drama and Theatre Studies
- English Literature
- Further Mathematics
- Government & Politics
- Media Studies
- Music Technology
We also offer Performing Arts BTEC and The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
